The spec asks for 4 modules of empty space around the code.

How to use it

  1. Pick what the code should do. Link is selected; the other buttons switch to Wi-Fi, contact cards, reviews, maps and more.
  2. Paste or type your web address. You can leave out https:// — it is added for you.
  3. Adjust the design if you like. The scanability score and the decode test update as you change colours, shapes or add a logo.
  4. Download PNG for screens, SVG for designers and print shops, or a PDF at the exact printed size.

A static code: no redirect, no expiry date

The code you make here stores your link directly. When someone scans it, their phone opens your address — nothing passes through our servers, and there is no account or subscription that could lapse. That’s what “static” means.

Many QR services instead give you a “dynamic” code that points to their own short link and forwards visitors to yours. That lets you change the destination later and count scans, but the code depends on that company: if the plan ends or the service closes, printed codes stop working. Here is the full comparison.

If you want to change destinations later with a static code, point it at a page you control (for example yourshop.com/qr) and update that page whenever you like.

See exactly what the code contains

Under the form, “What’s inside the code” shows the literal text being encoded. Nothing is added: no tracking parameters, no hidden redirect. If you want campaign tracking, add your own UTM parameters to the link and you will see them there too.

Example: a link with campaign tracking

Longer links make denser codes. This one fits comfortably, but a link several hundred characters long needs to be printed bigger to stay easy to scan — the legibility chart shows how much.

Checked before you print

Every design is checked live against the things that most often stop a code from scanning:

  • Contrast between the code and background colours, using the same luminance maths as accessibility checks.
  • Quiet zone — the empty margin the QR standard asks for (four modules).
  • Logo size compared with how much the chosen error-correction level can rebuild.
  • Printed size for the place it will be used, from a business card to a poster.
  • A real decode test: the rendered image is read back by a built-in decoder.

For a deeper review of a finished file, upload it to the QR print checker.

Which file format to download

SVG is a vector file: it stays perfectly sharp at any size and is what printers and design tools such as Illustrator, Figma, Canva or Affinity prefer. PNG is pixels: ideal for websites, slides and messages. Choose “Print · 300 DPI” in the size options and the PNG carries its print resolution, so layout apps place it at the right size. PDF puts the code on a page at the exact width you choose, with optional crop marks — ready to send to a print shop. More in SVG vs PNG for QR codes.

Tips

  • Test the link first. A code can be perfect and still lead to a broken page.
  • Use a short, permanent URL on your own domain for anything printed in large numbers.
  • Tell people what they get: a caption like “Scan for the menu” increases scans more than decoration does.
  • Dark on light, always. Light codes on dark backgrounds fail on some scanners.
  • Don’t crop the margin. Leave clear space around the code in your layout.
  • Print a proof and scan it with two different phones in the real lighting.

Questions

Is this QR code generator really free?

Yes. There is no signup, no trial, no watermark and no limit on how many codes you create or download.

Will my QR code expire?

No. A static code has no expiry date. It keeps working as long as the destination exists — if you delete the web page, the code leads to an error, but the code itself is fine.

Can I edit the link after printing?

Not inside the code — the link is part of the pattern. Point the code at a page you control and change that page’s content or redirect instead.

Do you track scans?

No. Static codes can’t be tracked by the generator. If you need numbers, add UTM parameters to your link and read them in your own analytics.

Can I use the codes commercially?

Yes, on packaging, menus, ads and anything else. You don’t need to credit us.
