How to use it
- Get your review link: in your Google Business Profile, choose “Ask for reviews” (sometimes shown as “Get more reviews”) and copy the short link.
- Paste it into the form. Don’t have access to the profile? Switch to Place ID and use Google’s Place ID Finder to look up your business.
- Scan the preview with your phone: the review window for your business should open.
- Download and print it where happy customers are — the counter, the bill folder, a thank-you card.
Review link or Place ID?
The review link from your Business Profile is the simplest option: it is short (so the code stays small) and Google maintains it. It usually looks like g.page/r/…/review.
The Place ID is a unique identifier Google gives every place on Maps. The generator turns it into Google’s “write a review” address, which opens the review form directly. It’s useful when you manage several locations or don’t have the profile login at hand.
The Place ID here is the sample from Google’s documentation. Use your own: the form warns you if what you paste doesn’t look like a Place ID or a Google address.

Stay within Google’s review rules
Google’s policies don’t allow businesses to offer discounts, gifts or other incentives in exchange for reviews, and they ask businesses not to collect only positive reviews (so-called review gating). A QR code that simply opens the review form for every customer is fine — avoid wording such as “5 stars = free coffee”.
Asking at the right moment matters more than design: right after a good experience, with a short, friendly line. “Enjoyed your meal? We’d love your review” works better than a bare code.
Where review codes get scanned
- On the bill folder or receipt — people already have their phone out to pay.
- Counter sign or table tent at eye level, printed about 4–6 cm wide.
- Thank-you card in deliveries and packages.
- Business card for service providers who visit customers.
Check the size for your placement in the legibility chart above, or with the QR code size calculator.
Tips
- Log out and test. Scan with a phone that isn’t signed in to your business account to see the customer view.
- One code per location. Each branch has its own review page and Place ID.
- Keep the caption honest: ask for a review, not a 5-star review.
- Reply to reviews. Customers notice businesses that answer, good or bad.
Questions
Do customers need a Google account?
Yes, Google requires people to be signed in to post a review. Most Android users and many iPhone users already are.
Will the code break if Google changes something?
The code only contains the link. Google’s review links have been stable for years, but if Google ever retired a link format you would need a new code. Linking through a page on your own website gives you full control.
Can I see how many people scanned it?
Not with a static code. You can watch the number of reviews in your Business Profile, or point the code at your own page with analytics before forwarding to Google.
Can I put a review code on Google Ads or my website?
On your website a normal link is better. Codes shine in physical places where typing a link is impractical.
