Higher levels survive more damage and logos, but make the code denser.

A weighted estimate from the checks below — not a guarantee. Always test a printed proof with two different phones.

Estimate based on the 10:1 distance rule, adjusted for this code’s density. Phones and light vary.

How to use it

  1. Type the number, ideally with the country code (+44, +1, +34…).
  2. Check the preview: the encoded text should read tel: followed by your number.
  3. Scan it: your phone should offer to call the number.
  4. Download and print, with the number also written in text for people who prefer to dial.

What the code contains

A tel: link (RFC 3966) with the digits of your number. Phones never call automatically — they show the number and wait for the person to tap call.

Example: shop number

Spaces, brackets and dashes are removed; the leading + is kept so the number works from abroad.

Where call codes are useful

  • Vehicles and site boards, where people can’t write the number down safely.
  • Equipment and machines: a support line on a sticker.
  • “Call to order” on menus and takeaway flyers.
  • Lost-property tags on luggage, keys or pet collars.

When another code is better

If you want people to save your number rather than call right away, a vCard code adds you to their contacts. For a text conversation, try WhatsApp or SMS.

Tips

  • Include the country code for tourists and international customers.
  • Write the number in text next to the code as a fallback.
  • On vehicles, print large: people scan from several metres away.

Questions

Will the phone call without asking?

No. Phones always show the number and wait for confirmation.

Does it work on tablets and computers?

Devices that can make calls (or have a calling app set up) will offer to call; others may just show the number.
